4 Tips on Being Self Confident

Yesterday was International By You Day so what better way than to focus on this day with some self confidence tips. We all have insecurities and things that we wish or want to change about ourselves but the truth is, your confidence comes from a state of thinking and a mindset.

So in today's blog post, I wanted to share with you 4 tips on how you can get into the psychological habit of building your self confidence every day.

Tip 1 - Practice Self Talk

Wake up in the morning and no matter how you are feeling, stand at the mirror and take the time to pick out 5 things you love about yourself. This could be you like your bed hair that morning or you like that you are strong minded and got out of bed this morning.

Whatever it may be, talk positivity about yourself and even write it down. As the saying goes, you wouldn't say something horrible to your friend so why would you say something horrible about yourself?

Tip 2 - Practice Gratitude

Now more than ever we are constantly seeing images of people who we think look better than us or we want to have their body or their hairstyle. If you catch yourself in this thought process, take the time to sit back and think about all the amazing things your body does for you. It breathes on it's own for you, it operates your eating and drinking to help keep you alive and healthy, it's been there for you every step of your life so far.

Once you begin to appreciate and practice gratitude towards your body, you are more likely to think negatively and compare than if you weren't to practice gratitude and appreciate your body.

Tip 3 - Think of Past Successes

No matter how big or small you think past achievements might be, keep a note of them and when you are feeling low or less confident, pick yourself up by reminding yourself of what incredible things you have done. These achievements could be getting up and dressed on a bad mental health day, getting a promotion or achieving your goals. Whatever your achievements are, they are personal to you and will most likely make you proud when reflecting on them.

Tip 4 - Live in the Present

So many of us, myself included, look so far ahead into the future that we forget that the time we have right in this very moment is the only time we have and are guaranteed in life.

Therefore, try and make a more subconscious effort to spend time with the people and things you love. Turn your phone off or shut it away when you are having a conversation (I need to do this more) and play a role in active listening when people are talking with you.
